Primary School Chinese Tuition

Nurturing Confident Communicators and Fostering Cultural Appreciation

TEE’s Core Chinese Language Programme

Our Chinese programme is comprehensive and focuses on the development of reading, writing, listening, and oral skills. Taught by native speakers, our lessons aim to help students cultivate an interest in the Chinese language through interesting and engaging classes that will help them understand and appreciate the history and culture of the Chinese language. Students deepen their recognition and understanding of Chinese culture through the study of literature, history, traditional culture, poems, and idioms. They will pick up valuable comprehension skills, learn how to communicate effectively in Chinese, and be confident users of the language.

Our programme is in-line with the MOE syllabus and meets examination requirements, effectively preparing our students for the PSLE. Our course covers:

1. Grammar

Students will pick up foundational Chinese grammar concepts such as the subject-verb-object structure of sentences, prepositions, and particles. Through this, students will learn how to use the Chinese language more accurately.

2. Vocabulary

Students will be provided with a wide variety of learning materials such as teaching aids, exercise books, and digital resources to help them better understand and master new words. Core Chinese lessons will help students master collocations and help them understand Chinese semantic radicals, so that they will be more able to effectively identify characters, differentiate between homophones, and decipher their meanings.

3. Comprehension

Students will pick up practical reading and critical thinking skills, such as how to use the associated words they have learnt to connect with the context of the passage, how to accurately identify answers in the passage, and how to properly phrase their answers.

4. Thematic Writing

Students will pick up key techniques such as show-not-tell, and how to describe scenes using their five senses. They will learn how to write descriptively using similes, personification, metaphors, and hyperboles. Students are encouraged to read widely at home, as exposure to a wide range of narratives will enable them to pick up different skills and help them develop their own writing style. They are also encouraged to be more observant in daily life, as that will help them write about scenes and characters in greater detail.

5. Oral and Communication Skills

Students will learn how to read expressively and fluently, and how to verbalise their thoughts coherently. They will learn how to express their opinions and ideas logically and succinctly, a skill necessary to do well for oral exams. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of topics in class, but are highly encouraged to read in their spare time. It is important for them to stay well-informed and be able to form their own opinions about current events.
